Eliot Benman is a Research Project Coordinator with the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center (VTC). His work supports a diverse portfolio of research projects, including the preparation of practitioner course materials. In addition, he is involved in efforts to implement the recommendations of the Together North Jersey regional plan, which was prepared as part of a HUD-funded Sustainable Communities Regional Planning initiative led by Rutgers University.
Eliot’s professional work has mainly focused on developing solutions to the spatial and social challenges to accessing opportunity faced by disadvantaged populations, through both a housing and transportation lens. Before joining the VTC, he oversaw a county-wide program that funded and coordinated the efforts of supportive housing developers serving people experiencing homelessness.
Eliot holds a B.A. in Political Science from Indiana University, Bloomington and a Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. He is a proponent of active transportation and walks and bikes between home and work.
