Congratulations to Leigh Ann Von Hagen on receiving the 2025 Marty Epstein Advocate of the Year Award at this year’s NJ Bike & Walk Summit! Presented by the NJ Bike & Walk Coalition, the award honors individuals who have made exceptional contributions to advancing active transportation in New Jersey.
Leigh Ann shared:
“Real progress happens when advocates, researchers, agencies, and local leaders work together to create policies and infrastructure that support active transportation and healthier communities. The NJ Bike & Walk Summit is a vital space for sharing ideas, building partnerships, and advancing efforts to make our state a better place to live, work, and travel.”
She also reflected on the legacy of Marty Epstein, a personal friend and longtime champion of the NJ Safe Routes to School program:
“Marty was a positive force, full of joy and optimism. He was passionate about sharing the joy of bicycling and believed deeply that bikes could change the world. He brought that energy and belief into everything he did and used it to uplift others. He is deeply missed.”
Her words embody the spirit of collaboration, passion, and community that define this award.
