Julene Paul is the 2016 recipient of the Mortensen/Voorhees Award for Achievement in Transportation Studies. Julene focused her studies on the intersection between transportation and equity, with a particular emphasis on transit planning. She has worked with Professor Michael Smart on modeling ridership response to service interruptions.

While a Bloustein student, Julene also worked for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, working in policy and planning for the PATH transit system. She previously worked as an assistant researcher for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Resource Center at VTC, including contributing to a project studying barriers to bicycling for minorities in New Jersey.

Julene will be taking a position as a Transportation Program Specialist, through the Office of Personnel Management’s Presidential Management Fellowship Program. She will be working at the Federal Transit Administration’s Region IX office in San Francisco, and hopes to continue work strengthening the relationships between local transit agencies and federal policymakers.
