The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) offers infrastructure grant funding through the federally funded Safe Routes to School Program, administered in partnership with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), and South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization (SJTPO).
SRTS grants support infrastructure projects that make it safer and easier for K–12 students to walk and bike to school within two miles of the school. Municipalities, counties, schools, and school districts are encouraged to apply. Eligible projects may include ADA-compliant sidewalks, bike paths, pavement striping, lighting, signals, traffic-calming improvements, and other safety enhancements.
